Call for Scores

Ball State University is pleased to announce a “call for scores” for consideration on the BSU 40th Festival of New Music, which will be held February 10-13, 2010.  Donald Grantham will be our visiting guest composer, and all concerts will take place in Ball State’s Sursa Hall.

Acoustic, electronic, or electro-acoustic compositions for solo instrument or smaller chamber ensembles will have a greater chance of being programmed than will works for larger forces; however, there are no special restrictions concerning the instrumentation or style of pieces that can be submitted. We wish to include as many composers as possible, so overly long works might also not be given priority.  Please let us know if you are able to provide your own performers.  Otherwise, the BSU performing faculty and their students will have final say as to whether or not they are willing to perform your work.

If you would like to submit a score and recording via the US mail, please have it postmarked by November 10, 2009, and send it to:

Dr. Jody Nagel, New Music Festival Coordinator
School of Music
Ball State University
Muncie, IN. 47306

You may also send PDF files of your score, and mp3 recordings, electronically to newmusicbsu <at> gmail <dot> com. Audio recordings are helpful, but are not mandatory.

We will determine which pieces we can program by December 5, 2009.  If your piece is selected for programming, we will expect performance materials (e.g., instrumental parts, electronic accompaniments on CD, etc.) to be made available quickly, and it is expected that the composer will be able to attend the performance of his or her piece.
